As I approach my thirtieth birthday, I can’t help but panic when I begin to think about getting older. I’ve started to notice some small changes and decided it was time to start taking better care of my skin. I realized after some time that I had been missing all of these other important steps in my daily skin care routine that were super beneficial and decided to share a little about what I’ve learned with you.
Beginning in your early 20’s, it’s a good idea to start incorporating an anti-aging skin care regimen into your everyday routine. By doing so, you can help slow the aging process, which begins around the age of 25 and are less likely to develop wrinkles and lines. As the aging process begins, the skin starts to lose its elasticity and tone and collagen fibers begin to wear out and can no longer support the skin. You might start to notice small changes start to happen overtime such as fine lines around your eyes and on your forehead, deep wrinkles and dark spots. Without a proper skin care regimen in place, especially as you begin to age, you’ll likely end up with dry, saggy skin with wrinkles and lines.
Below is an example of the skin care regimen I started following, in no particular order and a brief summary of the benefits of each skin care product.
Cleanser - 2x day (AM/PM) - Cleanses and washes away dirt and oil leaving skin refreshed and smooth.
Exfoliating Cleanser - 1x weekly - Gently but deeply buffs away dirt and dead cells leaving your complexion softer, brighter and younger looking.
Toner - 2x daily (AM/PM) - A key step as it purifies the excess dirt, cleans excess sebum trapped in your pores and rebalances skin. Helps with dark spots, sunspots, and uneven skin tones due to tanning and sunburns.
Serum - 2x day (AM/PM) - Helps to smooth the skin overtime. Nourishes the skin barrier and leaves it hydrated.
Moisturizer - 1-2x daily (depending on skin type) - Helps protect the skin barrier by providing the skin with intense hydration.
Eye Cream - 2x day (AM/PM) - Helps hydrate, soothe, and condition the eye area helping to refine and replenish fine lines and deep wrinkles. Gives a rested and bright-eyed look and helps with dark circles or bags around/under eyes.
Other ways you can help slow the aging process of your skin include applying sunscreen when in the sun, drinking lots of water and taking vitamins. All skin types are different so the first step to getting started is finding the product that fits you best.
If I could go back and change one thing, i would have started a full-blown skin care regimen a lot sooner. I was always overwhelmed by all the different serum and creams that I mainly just stuck with cleansing and moisturizing. Little did I know there were great benefits to all these other products I had been avoiding all these years.
